Grammar checks and spell checks are most valuable to those who are striving to improve their proficiency of the English language. They are particularly useful if you want to learn the basic of English grammar and spelling. If you notice recurring problem, you should take steps to identify and correct the problem. If you can not figure it out on your own, you will have to seek help from others.

While grammar checks and spell checks can be beneficial for writers of all skill levels, the more advanced writer you are, the less likely the results of these checks will be useful to you. When you grow more adept at the language, rules can be bent or broken for specific purposes. As these programs do not make allowances for these exceptions, they can be more annoying than useful. This is why many individuals will turn off grammar checks until they are ready to edit their work.

It is suggested that grammar check and spell check should be the last step before you turning in your writing. All other editing should be done prior to this check. This will save you a lot of time, effort and frustration.
