Writing is more of an art form than many of us realize. Over the years, good writing seems to have lost much of its flair and finesse. Gone are the days of letters and poetry, only replaced by crude and childish chat. But you do not have to be one of the masses; with a little bit of practice and discipline, you can be one of the greats.
The most important rule to keep in mind when you write would be to know who you are writing for. Not everyone is going to read your writing, so it would make sense to tailor your writing to fit your audience accordingly. Learning how to become a better writer starts with knowing who you will be writing for. The audience is who you are trying to reach with your writing, so write for them. In today’s world of instant electronic communication, good writer seems to be a rare commodity. With more and more people communicating using text messages, tweets, and other informal forms of communication, many people feel that there is a trend moving away from the fundamental need for good grammar, accurate spelling, and thoughtfully constructed sentences and paragraphs. However, there are still many good reasons why writers should seek to improve their abilities to write. Here are five good reasons to become a better writer.
1. Enhance Self-Expression
There is no arguing that the written word is one of the most effective means for expressing the writer’s inner self. The power of words has always been recognized by those who choose to express themselves through their writing. Even the style of writing tells much about the way the writers view themselves and their world.

In order to improve your English writing, it is important to have a plan. The most widely used plan involves five steps, which are more commonly known as the writing process. That is correct; there is a process. If this process is followed diligently, you can be confident that your finished work is well written.
The first step to improve your writing is to organize your thoughts by planning. It is important to first consider your audience. The words, sentence structure and format you use will vary depending on who will be reading your writing. The other part of the planning is to decide exactly what points you want to make. You can organize your thoughts through an outline. The method that you choose to organize your draft is not important. However, planning your draft beforehand is of vital importance.
The second step is to construct a draft. At this point, do not worry about spelling, sentence structure, or grammar. You will have ample opportunities to correct any mistakes later. Get your thoughts down on the paper or computer. Let your thoughts flow naturally and refer to your … [Find out more ...]
